Lake Katwe Bee Keepers Association

Lake Katwe Bee Keepers Association is a community driven organization that mitigates human-elephant conflict in remote areas in Uganda by training bee keepers to keep bees safely and effectively. By keeping bee hives around the perimeters of their properties or along forest boundaries, farmers can limit the contact they have with elephants, who steer clear of the hives and their noisy residents. This training also provides farmers with an additional income in the form of honey production.

Support from our conservation partnerships program has enabled the association to…

  • Pay for their licence
  • Provide uniforms to their executive team
  • Build bee catcher boxes
  • Setting up an apiary
  • Attract government attention to the organization and conservation issue by funding administration costs
